The grinding and classification process is a typical complex multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) process with features of non-linear condition, time delay, time variation and uncertainty. The control performance of the grinding and classification process directly relates to the industrial economic benefits and the resource utilization Therefore, the research on the grinding and classification process has the extremely vital significance. It is also a research focus in recent years. Taking into account the facts in SiJiaYing concentrator (Hebei Iron and Steel (Group) Co.), we aim at the study and realization of the grinding and classification automatic control and technology in the integrated automation system.Based on the analysis of the characteristics in control of the ball mill and hydro cyclones, this paper firstly presents the control basis for the grinding and classification process, and decomposes the grinding and classification system into several sub-systems in order to implement in engineering practice. In the realization, the fuzzy control scheme is used to stabilize the particle size control, and the model self-learning algorithm is used to stabilize the feeding quantities of ore and water and finally realize the automatic control to the grinding concentration. Secondly, researches on the soft-sensing technique are carried out, and the soft-sensing model of the grinding concentration is constructed, which is helpful in theory for the engineering realization of grinding process automatic control. At the same time, taking into account the project application, the paper analyses the model self-learning algorithm, and carries out the simulative experiments to verify the effectiveness of the presented scheme. Finally, the paper presents the whole design process of the grinding process integrated automation system. In this system, the PLC based supervision control is used in the mineral processing area, within this area three layer of network NetLinx architecture (EtherNet/IP, ControlNet and Device Net) is adapted, and redundancy design is taken into account. The fiber ring network structure links the operation areas and the information is exchanged. The paper shows the screen-capture images of the designed system. The field application shows that the scheme has a good economy, reliability and flexibility.Research results on the grinding and classification process control have a good application value and promotion prospects. Using automated and information technology to reconstruct the traditional process enterprise has important reference value.
