Electricity signal monitoring and transfer in power quality monitoring field are becoming more and more essential for our domestic economy development. Power quality has attracted a great deal of attention in recent years due to increasing utilization of sensitive power electronic-based loads in power system. Severe damage to the equipment and costly problem to the customers can be caused by power quality problem. Therefore, the security of power system operation and regular quality of power is of great importance. Power quality monitoring and communicating system with communication ports is mainly researched in this thesis. It is a system that can record the abnormal waveform data of power system and other characteristic when a power system abnormity has happened. And it also has the function that uploading the abnormal waveform data to the superordinate computer.Due to the problems regarding to hardware configuration, cost and reliability of the microcomputer-based recorder, this paper presents a design scheme for the fault recorder which takes Micro-controller and Digital signal processor as system hardware platform, and takes personal computer as superordinate computer. That comes out a simplified structure of both software and hardware.This system uses DSP plus ARM architecture.DSP uses TMS320C33, a float-point processor from TI Company, it is used for high-speed data operation, dealing with various analog inputs and switching signals to reach diagnosing the power system and record the parameter of power system when a power system fault has happened. ARM processor uses STR710, a fixed-point processor from ST Company. It is used as a bridge between power quality monitoring equipment and personal computer, to deliver the supervision orders and error records. High precision 16 bit bipolar A/D chips are used in this system to analyze and record the waveform data accurately. Several network functions are added to the system, such as Ethernet, RS-232, GPRS wireless network etc, to satisfy the impending need of recorder’s network function. Referring to the system structure, client/server structure is used in the system. The power quality monitoring system can connect to personal computer by Ethernet, RS232 or GPRS in different places to implement the transmission of recorded information and supervision. Through various functions of network communication, the system achieves the intention of communication between the superordinate computer and subordinate computer.
