Network is the inevitable product in automatic control industry, which is promoted by the demand of data exchange between complex network protocols. Automatic control means using additional equipment or device to make the machine, equipment or some working condition and parameter to run according to the scheduled law automatically without direct involvement of human. The studying of automatic control technology will help human out of complicated, dangerous and cumbersome working environment, and improve the control efficiency. In traditional automatic control industry, a conversation is needed according to some networking protocol to make all kinds of machines and equipments run with given parameter. The CAN (Controller Area Network) and Ethernet protocols, and serial communication protocols like RS-232 and RS-485 are widely used nowadays. The upper computer and equipment carry the data exchange and parameter sending with the above protocols. Because all the equipments with different protocols work in the same automatic control network, there exits the problem of cooperative work. Thus it triggers the demand of data exchange in several network protocols, i.e., the CAN-Ethernet protocol. The first generation CAN-Ethernet communication protocol converter cannot fulfill the data increase and demand, which used the 386 hardware structure and 8-bit wire technology and will restrict the improvement of efficiency and algorithm. Therefore, the development of new converter is very imperative. In this paper, the new system was realized by ARM hardware structure and 32-bit wire technology.Compared with the first generation communication protocol converter, the superiority of this system is the fast operating rate and large data throughput. Due to theμC/OS-Ⅱembedded real time operating system, the stability and expandability of this system improve a lot for the convenience of cutting and transplant, and can collect data to calculate, analysis, storage and transmission. Thus the operating load of upper computer and CAN-Ethernet protocol can be reduced, and the efficiency of equipment can be increased and the maintenance cost can be lowed.This system has passed the test, and is ready to be arranged on the spot, which can run normally and steadily in the test. As the front end collects data of each control appliance, then encrypts data and transfers to the upper computer, the operation speed and efficiency of the whole system can be improved and the safety and reliability of system data can be insured. In this case, the data integrity and safety will increase greatly, and this research has its reference function and practical significance for the development of automatic control network.
