Coal ash fusion temperature is an important parameter in coal gasification and it closely related to the way to discharge the residues for a coal gasifier.Calcium sulfate is the main component of the solid waste flue gas desulphurization(FGD) and phosphogypsum(PG),its effect on coal ash melting characteristic was studied in this paper.The behavior of calcium sulfate decomposition was calculated by the thermodynamic software package FactSage with different pressures in various atmospheres. The experimental results show that:the decomposition products and approach of pure calcium sulfate differ in different atmospheres. the effect of Calcium sulfate on the coal ash fusion character is that it can decrease the fusion temperature of the coals with high ash fusion temperature and increase the fusion temperature of the low ash fusion temperature coals; the effective agent to the coal ash fusion temperature in the melting process of the coal ash are not the same in different atmospheres;the conversion rate of pure calcium sulfate increased with the time and then kept constant when the maximum conversion was achieved. The decomposition rate of pure calcium sulfate speed with the increasing temperature at the same atmosphere
