Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor(PMSM) have wide application prospect due to high efficiency, small size and good variable speed performance. Different pole and slot matching and different arrangement of magnet will affect the performance of the motor. So it is meaningful to contrast the performances of PMSM which has different pole and slot matching and different structure of rotor. This paper is devoted to study on high efficiency Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous (IPMSM) by using finite element method(FEM).First of all, this paper analyzes the iron loss, copper loss and stray loss and the corresponding measures are taken in order to reduce these kinds of losses. Meanwhile the factors of iron loss and stray loss are studied by the simulation analysis. As the proportion of each part loss to total losses is changed with power. So, according to the main losses, some important countermeasures are suggested. Then it has selected different rotor structure of pole and slot matching which are designed with the same stator parameters. The FEM model is established and calculated. The performances of the motors which have different structure of rotor are contrasted and analyzed.By a comprehensive consideration of these factors, the optimized design of two types of motors is carried. The optimized design aims for minimizing the sum of the copper loss and the iron loss including air gap length, permanent magnet dimension, tooth width, etc. At the same time, the inductance parameters, leakage coefficient and torque ripple are contrasted and analyzed. At last, the sample motor is made. Comparing with the results of test and computation. The rationality of the method and the reliability of research conclusion are verified.
