OBJECTIVE To study the incidence and risk factors of postcholecystectomy diarrhoea(PCD).BACKGROUND Cholecystectomy is the first way to treat the disease of gallbladder stones, meanwhile, the amount of PCD patient is increasing because of the high incidence and upward trend of gallbladder stones and the widespreading of laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Attention should be paid to this in clinic. But there were respective results of PCD incidence in different literatures, meanwhile, there was no study to analyze risk factors of PCD.MATERIALS AND METHODS 60 patients with chronic calculous cholecystitis were selected according to uniform standard to receive laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) from January to July in 2009.The preoperative, intraoperative, postoperative pathological results and 1 month,3 months,6 months follow-up results were evaluated and analyzedRESULTS The amount and the incidence of diarrhoea were respectively 39 and 65%(lmonth after LC),24 and 40%(3 months after LC),15 and 25%(6 months after LC). Age was the protective factor of PCD (RR=0.863, P=0.000), preoperative gallbladder contractility (RR=2.180, P=0.000) and intraoperative appearance of gallbladder (RR= 2.016, P=0.005) were the risk factors of PCD.CONCLUSIONS The incidence of PCD decreased by time, and some patients may be self-healing, some were aggravated to the chronic diarrhoea. Age, preoperative gallbladder contractility and intraoperative appearance of gallbladder can be used as predictors of PCD. Age and preoperative gallbladder contractility can be used as references for individual treatment of gallbladder stones.KEYWORDS chronic calculous cholecystitis; postcholecystectomy diarrhoea (PCD); incidence rate; risk factors; preoperative gallbladder contractility
