WSN(Wireless Sensor Network) is an synthesis technology which composed by sensor technology, embedded technology, distributed technology, wireless communication technology and so on. It can quite match the requirements from real time monitoring automation collection and so on. So this technology has been wildly used in military, environment monitoring, agriculture, medicine. So Its future is definitely bright and the application of WSN will also become more and more useful.WSN is different from traditional network. It face to a huge amount of node, and the energy of node is also limited.When design target of WSN,the most important rule is saving energy and extending network life. But this rule may cause the low performance.This thesis introduced a survey of classic WSN MAC protocol. It also compared the performance of them and gave the conclusion. After that,this thesis introduced the simulation of SMAC in Omnetpp which was a visual tools for wireless network simulation.After analysis the disadvantage of SMAC, there was a new improvement coming out. It introduced preemptive scheduling inside the node.and also preemptive contention window. To solve the problem of synchronization,the synchronism was also improved.The result of simulation told us, all the improvement give an advantage on data delay and network jam.
