Special education schools are the principle form of special education in our country. They not only play an exemplary role to other forms of special education, but also are the development criterion of local education and civilization.The objective of special education is to meet the maximal demand of exceptional children of local society, smooth their ways towards communities by teaching them knowledge and skills, discovering their potential as well as building up their personalities. As special education schools are usually isolated from public, there are disadvantages with their children fitting in the needs of local communities, but the idea of integrated education and recommended recently has promoted the reform of traditional special education. In this case, the studies about how to change the design of special education schools to answer the reform, providing special children a much comfortable, diverse and opened communication space, and giving full scope to educational environment have become a key subject in the research of architecture design for special education.This essay concludes the behavior characters of exceptional children in communication and various communication level of special education school by on-the-pot investigation and documents studies. And moreover, it compares with similar cases overseas and uses the studies in communication space design of ordinary educations for reference, from integral layout to detail layout, as well as space composition. Finally, it draws a conclusion on the principle and policy for the communication space design of special education schools.Architectural design of special education schools must reflect the concept of special education and its development of teaching modal. As our country devotes great efforts to developing special education these years, it has significant practical meaning to offer feasible architectural designs of special education schools by the investigation of its present status and comparisons with similar cases overseas.
