In order to meet the requirements of the dynamic changing market and personalized products for different consumers, the production mode of mass customization is applied in more and more enterprises. The technologies of Parameterization, Standardization and Modularization for mass customization have been widely used in many aspects such as product design and manufacturing, with less internal diversity modules to meet the products demand for more external diversity.In this paper, Part Family design and Product Configuration based on the product lifecycle are researched with the guide of mass customization to improve the efficiency of product configuration. Part Family architecture model based on parametric tree constraint and Parametric Product Configuration Technology system framework based on Part Family are proposed. It describes the properties of Part Family by characteristic parameters, establishes the parametric constraints between parts, and forms the parametric part family model. Then, the design process of Parametric Product Configuration based on Part Family is described. The details of the paper are as follows:1) A parametric part family model is established. In this model, the part family properties domain and assembly structure domain in product are expressed in parametric methods. The function, performance and geometry of part family members depend on the values of part family characteristic parameters.2) A parametric product configuration method based on part family is proposed. Based on part family, the corresponding configuration parameters and rules are described, the process of Parametric Product Configuration is given.3) The realization of the parametric part family management system for the PLM is researched, which can guarantee the accuracy, integrity and validity for product data in configuration process. Furthermore, a parametric part family management system for PLM system is used successfully in the enterprises, which demonstrated the correctness and usability of the research.
