Just a few decades since the birth of the first-generation analog cellular mobile communication system, mobile communication technology has been rapid development of humanity has achieved the dream of anytime, anywhere communications. Especially with the recent years the rapid development of wireless communication system, radio frequency (RF) circuit caused wide attention, and low-cost, low-power CMOS radio frequency integrated circuit research and development is the field of modern electronic design hot spots. As one of the core module of the wireless communication system, a voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) can not only provide a stable local oscillator signal frequency multiplier can also be necessary clock signals for generating the entire circuit. Its phase noise, the adjustment range, the power consumption has great influence on the performance of the wireless communication system, and thus how to design a high performance VCO has become an important topic in analog integrated circuit design. According to the Hunan Provincial Natural Science Foundation of China - the high-performance CMOS CPPLL research and design projects require voltage-controlled oscillator designed two different bands. Firstly, brief introduction to the history of the development of the voltage-controlled oscillator and Research, the basic working principle of the oscillator, then the system and in-depth analysis of the main three phase noise model and ring oscillator and inductor-capacitor oscillator works. Ring VCO and the different characteristics of the inductor-capacitor voltage-controlled oscillator has taken a series of measures to optimize circuit performance, and given based on the TSMC 0.18μm RF CMOS process the circuit embodiment and simulation results and layout. Ring VCO: optimization of the control circuit, designed a new type of delay unit circuit and capacitor filter measures to improve the circuit performance, the ultimate realization of the Ring VCO center frequency 1.8V operating voltage, 357MHz, 74.5% tuning range, the phase noise is -79.4dBc/Hz @ 10kHz and -99.6dBc/Hz @ 100kHz, the static power consumption for 9MW. 2, inductor-capacitor voltage-controlled oscillator: measures of implementation and optimization of on-chip inductors and variable capacitors, capacitor filter technology, the second harmonic noise reduction technology, as well as emotional voltage-controlled side technology and a series of measures to optimize circuit performance, the ultimate realization of the inductor-capacitor VCO center frequency of 2.005GHz, 17.5% tuning range and phase noise -90.5dBc/Hz _AT_ 10kHz and a 112.3dBc/Hz of @ 100kHz, the static power consumption of 5.4mW . The post-simulation results show that this paper, the design of the voltage-controlled oscillator meet the design requirements, with good usability and feasibility.
