Living conditions of migrant workers and its influencing factors

With economic development and rapid urbanization in our country, a massive surplus labor force from the countryside has come into cities and shifted to workers in the non-farming fields. They, workers from rural areas, are in great numbers, and becoming a special and important force in our socialist construction.The transfer of the surplus labor force from the countryside is essential to our country in rapid urbanization and new construction of the rich countryside and the harmonious society. However, due to diverse reasons, the workers from rural areas confronted a lot of difficulties in their professional career and personal life. Therefore, it is of a great importance to study their existence condition, analyze the influential factors and work out effective solutions to the problems.Shuyang County of Suqian City was the object of our study. Through the investigations, among the farmers working in the cities, into their existence conditions, the influential factors have been analyzed and related solutions to the problems, worked out.It is very important to reform the household register system, for the workers from rural areas to integrate into the cities and be treated as the citizens; to strengthen the supervision of wage for maintenance of their legitimate rights; to meliorate their habitation and enhance the health service; to solve the problems concerning social security and children’ education; to protect the contractors’ rights, in accordance with law, to use the land contracted; to reinforce the exploitation of manpower resource in the countryside; to establish and complete the employment agencies; to create, in the whole society, the cultural atmosphere of respect and care for the workers from rural areas.On the other hand, the workers from rural areas should exert to improve themselves in mentality, culture and professional skills, and ameliorate their current existence condition relying on themselves and social supports, for a better future of themselves and the whole country.
