With the development of the society and renewal of thinking, people pay more and more attention to their own health. In recent years, the continuous decrease of Chinese teenagers’ health has attracted considerable attention of the State and it has put forward a series of policies and regulations for the purpose of improving teenage students’health, which prompted a reflection on present extracurricular sports in middle schools. In this paper, such kinds of research methods as literature review, questionnaires, interviews, mathematical statistics, comparison, logic analysis, etc. are applied, with 1,200 students and leaders of PE teaching and research groups from 30 middle schools in 10 counties and cities in Sanming City as subjects, to study the current situation of and factors affected to the extracurricular sports of middle school students in Sanming City and propose development countermeasures against the extracurricular sports of middle school students in Sanming City. The result indicates that in the survey of physical health with regard to the 1,200 students from 30 middle schools in Sanming City, those who are overweight and obese are mainly urban students, and the rate of students’myopia has reached as high as 72.23%. Besides myopia, some middle school students are also in subhealthy state like insomnia, anxiety, and so on. However, generally, the students have a comparatively comprehensive understanding of the health-building function of the extracurricular sports and love extracurricular sports subjectively. The positive factors influencing the middle school students’extracurricular sports in Sanming City are the host of Beijing Olympics, the high attention paid by the State, sports star and television, and so on, while the constraining factors are badly shortage of playground and apparatus, school leaders, head teachers and parents’indifference to the. extracurricular sports, and students’heavy study burden, and so on. Therefore, such measures as making efforts to improve the playground and apparatus, physical culture leaders in the schools trying their best in organizing the extracurricular sports and steadily promoting the reform of physical exercise courses in the middle schools, and making the students have the consciousness of lifelong physical exercises are the countermeasures to the development of the middle school students’extracurricular sports in Sanming City.
