Southern Jiangsu and Northern Jiangsu, due to the different cultural traits and different economic foundation, have different cultures. Because of regional cultural differences, students from Northern Jiangsu studying in higher vocational colleges in Southern Jiangsu,will encounter a lot of problems of acculturation. The study is designed to deal with the cultural differences, the process of acculturation, the help from the colleges.Based on the qualitative research method and the principle of convenient sampling, the author took Jiangyin Polytechnic College as a case and obtained the necessary abundant first-hand information by selecting 1 student in Grade 2007,3 students in Grade 2008 coming from Northern Jiangsu, making formal interviews with them for 2 to 4 times and many informal talks from October 2008 to June 2010, in addition to two rounds of questionnaire surveys with over 100 freshmen in 4 departments completing the questionnaire.The paper selects the" interpersonal relationship" as a viewpoint to guide the research. It studies the students’cultural features embodied in the adaptation of Southern Jiangsu culture. The analysis of several influential factors of interpersonal relationships shows the cultural differences as well as the process of their gradual adaption. The paper also puts forward some countermeasures to deal with the unacculturation caused by the cultural differences in the three perspectives of psychological guidance, cultural identity, quality education.This study is designed to help students from Northern Jiangsu further understand their behavior and emotional tendency, so as to adjust themselves to the study and life in different cultural background, and help them adapt to the culture of Southern Jiangsu. The study is also a supplement to the theoretical research on Higher Vocational Students’ acculturation, provides reference for the universities to carry on purposeful and effective education management.
