The demand of grain was great in Peking during Republican China period. The merchant of the grain store near Peking railway station, which was the first level of grain market, took the sample of the grain to the market of second level. The businessmen of the third level ordered the merchandise in the second level markets. The third level shops have a large amount of numbers, so they can accommodate the food to the citizens. The issue of grain was very important for human’s life, as Peking has a large population. With the focus of the grain market, this thesis systematically pays attention to the grain market rules, the characteristics of grain merchant, and how the food supplies circulate. It also expatiates on the significance of locational characteristics to contemporary merchant of the grain and citizens.
