The afforestations on the poor site are the difficulty and keystone in silvicultural operations at the present stage and silviculture on the arid site is one of main types of those. The low survival rate is a pivotal technical question of which need to be urgently solved when we afforest on the arid site. Speed of seedlings’rooting after planting is one critical factor for seedlings’survival. Increasing afforestation seedling root activity for restoring root to physiological function quickly and reducing the recover period, is one of the key technologies to increase survival rate.The research, in which we choose Chinese pine (Pinus tabulaeformis Carr.) and arborvitae (Platycladus oriatalis) among the main conifers for the use of plantation in North China as the experimental species, the main species of plantation in North China, was engaged in the chemical ways of enhancing seedlings’root-system vigor treated by such chemicals as exterior plant hormones based on previous single-factor test. The orthogonal design plan prepared. Seedlings planted in 15, 30, 45, 60 and 240 days, respectively, after treatment were measured in the indicators of the root system. The best rooting reagents were selected by a comprehensive analysis of multiple indicators with the control reagents, the efficiency of the optimal quick-rooting reagents were estimated comprensively.The main research findings are as follows:1. Choose of rooting reagents used for Chinese pine and arborvitae: Different treatment of Chinese pine and arborvitae seedlings root-system five consecutive measurements, analyzed the results of each measurement, screened the corresponding rooting reagents. Chinese pineⅠselected processing I-13 that A2B2C1D3, integrated better than other treatments, and has good continuity and stability. TestⅡselected processing II-14 that A2B2E2F1, integrated better than other treatments, and high continuity and stability.Chinese pine test selected processing c-16 that H2I3J1K1, better results than other treatments, and there is a certain continuity and stability.2. Research of Chinese pine rooting reagents comparison: By a single index and multi-index comprehensive comparative analysis of treatment I-13, II-14, CK-1, CK-2, CK-3 and CK-4 known that treatment II-14 was significantly better than other treatments. Root length average increase 73.7 percent, root surface area average increase 83.4 percent, the number of root tips average increase 59.6 percent, root fresh weight average increase 108.7 percent, root activity average increase 97.9 percent, root volume average increase 124.7 percent than CK-1. Root length average increase 41.9 percent, root surface area average increase 47.0 percent, the number of root tips average increase 39.0 percent, root fresh weight average increase 57.3 percent, root activity average increase 55.0 percent, root volume average increase 52.4 percent than the best commercial rooting reagents. Therefore, treatment II-14 reagent for the best Chinese pine rooting reagent, root activity of the seedlings have a stronger role in promoting recovery can take root in a relatively short period of time, thus shortening the recover period, improve the survival rate.3. Research of arborvitae rooting reagents comparison: By a single index and multi-index comprehensive comparative analysis of treatment c-16, CK-1, CK-2, CK-3 and CK-4 known that treatment c-16 was significantly better than other treatments. Root length average increase 49.1 percent, root surface area average increase 62.7 percent, the number of root tips average increase 49.7 percent, root fresh weight average increase 90.1 percent, root activity average increase 39.1 percent, root volume average increase 55.2 percent than CK-1. Root length average increase 25.9 percent, root surface area average increase 41.5 percent, the number of root tips average increase 24.7 percent, root fresh weight average increase 52.0 percent, root activity average increase 18.7 percent, root volume average increase 35.0 percent than the best commercial rooting reagents. Therefore, processing c-16 is the optimal treatment for arborvitae, the role of a higher rooting, you can shorten the recover period, improve the survival rate.
