Getting Information is one of the most important functions of Internet. Real-time requisition of information and its analysis can help people quickly make the optimal choice. Therefore, the research of real-time information system is of great significance. Location-based Service is a special real-time information system. With rapid the development of the mobile Internet, location-based service will bring tremendous value to the people. Based on such research background, this paper focuses on the theoretical research and the system design of the real-time information systemThis paper starts from the concept of real-time information and the concept of real-time information system. Subsequently, we discuss how to evaluate the value of real-time information and the performance of real-time information system.Then we will introduce the basic technologies of the real-time information system from three aspects including information collection, information processing and information publication. These technologies include wireless sensor, radio frequency identification, smart phone, cloud computing, AJAX (Asynchronous JavaScript XML). We will introduce how these technologies improve the performance of the real-time information system.Then, we will research two real-time information systems used in practice example: real-time traffic system and micro-blog system. These two systems have been used in people’s daily life. Based on the research, we discuss the challenges in the design and the deployment of the real-time information system and the solutions to improve the performance of real-time information system. Based on the research, we design the INFOCOM LIVE. This system has been used in the conference venue of IEEE INFOCOM 2011 (The 30th IEEE International Conference on Computer Communications), which is the top-level academic conference of communication and network research in the world. We will focus on the design and implementation of real-time information system INFOCOM LIVE. This part includes the overall system architecture, design of each subsystem and its on-site practice circumstances.After that, we will research the location-based service. The definition of the location-based service will be given and we will discuss the relationship between the location-based service and the real-time information system. Then we will discuss the operation models and the basic technologies of the location-based service. The models include check-in mode, living information mode, game mode and social mode. The basic technologies include location Theoretical Research and System Design on Real-time Information System technology, geographic information system and smart phone.Based on the research, we design the“Yaohe”System. This system is a real-time location-based information system. We will focus on the design and implementation of“Yaohe”System. This part includes the overall system architecture, design of each subsystem and its on-site practice circumstances.
