Research of Laser Instrument to Automatically Sort Male and Female Silkworm Eggs

Because of the difference between biological characteristics of male and female silkworm eggs, only male si lkworm eggs will be raised in biological research, which means male silkworm eggs need to be distinguished from female ones according to their different color. The current artificial separation is time-consuming and arduous, and works inefficiently, in addition, it is behind the requirement. So we need an equipment to separate male and female silkworm eggs automatically. We’ll study the instrument in two different ways. The first one is laser Instrument to automatically sort male and female silkworm eggs, it mainly involves technology of digital image processing and laser marking in this kind of method, another method is photoelectric Instrument to automatically sort dispersive male and female silkworm eggs, and it’s based on technology of photoelectric identification, color discrimination, and sensing, it is still in development stage.Laser instrument for sorting has been preliminary studied before, but due to unexpected result it has not been used in actual production. The software of laser instrument for sorting will be designed with new approaches to improve it. The working process mainly contains image collection, digital image processing, and laser marking. Technology of camera calibration and digital image processing are key point of our research. We use camera calibration function provided by OpenCV (open source computer vision library) in this paper, and the calculate result is satisfactory. For image processing, we get the most appropriate threshold value to identify the color of silkworm eggs by using Otsu’s method, and detect the edge of the binary image, and then detect the corner accurately with the gradient related matrix determinant, and last we fit elliptic for every male silkworm egg to pinpoint center of silkworm eggs.In the meantime, photoelectric Instrument to automatically sort dispersive male and female silkworm eggs is been designed, it is a breakthrough to using multi-channel and technology of turntable-inclined scratch, many problems of previous study will be solved, and turntable-inclined scratch style photoelectric instrument to automatically count granules is according to this technology. We use photoelectric recognition technology to sort silkworm eggs by their color.
