A Pragmatics Analysis of the Verbal Humor in American Animated Cartoon Films

Humor is the essence of our human-specific, as a way of interpersonal become an important part of each national culture, language. Has been, humor for many disciplines, such as philosophy, psychology, linguistics, literature, sociology, anthropology attention and study. But for what is humor, why humor when humor and how humor \Humor in academic research has been seen as an interdisciplinary, its degree of importance is not enough. Until the 1980s, with the development of pragmatics, many scholars have found the best meeting point with humor research, made a great contribution in this field. With the development of globalization and internationalization, more and more Chinese people, especially the young enthusiasm for learning English are on the rise, American animated film for its witty dialogue, fantastic design, ups and downs of the story and people breathtaking animation, has become a very popular learning materials. Especially the humorous dialogue is successful carrier as verbal humor, verbal humor language provides a number of typical materials research and analysis. In this paper, the method of qualitative research, a random sample of nine film works produced by Disney, DreamWorks, Fox, from the pragmatics perspective, summary the existing Western humor research theory based on the use of the principle of cooperation, Relevance Theory and face theory pragmatic theory, of which a large number of successful instances of verbal humor, a multi-angle, multi-level research and analysis, attempts to explore the humor inherent manufacturing laugh mechanisms, and effective recommendations to help people to a better understanding and appreciation of verbal humor. Following steps: (1) Introduction corpus related contexts and situations; (2) Select humor amusing statement as the object of study; (3) the use of certain pragmatic theory corpus analysis. In addition, the article also analyzes some of China's second language acquisition can not understand the reason for the American animated film some humorous dialogue, including Chinese and Western cultural differences, social background, knowledge of literature and other cultural factors do not understand the use of contextual language reasoning ability and poor. For these reasons, the authors propose a Second Language Acquisition In addition to the strengthen their English basic knowledge and skills to learn, but also should pay attention to training their own pragmatic reasoning ability. This paper argues that the understanding and appreciation of verbal humor to cultivate the capacity in this area is of great benefit.
