The radar simulated signal source has become indispensable technical equipment in radar system and performance index testing, because of its economy, flexibility and repeatability. Its main function is to produce the signal of the target and its condition, in order to get true reappearance of the radar signal. Simulation model of accuracy, versatility and flexibility are important indicators to measure the radar simulated signal source.The paper is based on development of 3mm seeker signal processor and carefully research for simulating theory, arithmetic and signal processing of the target echo, the noise and the clutter signal as well as the modeling and simulation. The radar works at two modes: searching mode and tracking mode. In the searching mode, the radar transmits pulsed doppler signal; in the tracking mode, the radar transmits stepped frequency signal. Based on the radar working mode, target motion model, noise model and clutter model, the video frequency echo signal are calculated by PC with Matlab function. Then the data are loaded to SDRAM of the radar simulated signal source by PCI bus interface of computer. The simulated signal source output data to digital quadrature up frequency converter AD9957 and its output signal is intermediate frequency echo analog signal, which realize real time simulating of 3mm seeker radar echo signal. A signal processing method of high range resolution based on Inverse Discrete Fourier Transform is analyzed and the effect on the high resolution range profile caused by the radial motion between the target and the radar is discussed. The frequency compensation principle is analyzed according to the research of the relation of the different pulse’s phase and several different frequency compensation methods based on velocity estimation are introduced and proved by computer simulation.We mainly use Matlab 7.0 to model and simulate every module’s functions. Then, we utilize Visual C++ 6.0 to design a software platform of the 3mm seeker radar system, which would be a living, effective, economical and convenient test platform for radar electronic warfare.
