Research on Service Registration Technology in Ad Hoc Networks

With the development of wireless technology and the popularization of portable devices, the needs for new mobile communication network have been increasing. As a multi-hop, infrastructureless and self-organized network, Ad hoc network becomes more and more important.The service discovery protocols in mobile Ad hoc networks, which help other devices automatically find usable services in the networks, recently become a hot technology point. Being the significant effect facter of service discovery, the technology of service registration arises attention of scholars from the entire world.In this thesis, through analyzing and comparing of all sorts of service discovery protocols in Ad hoc network, service discovery is concluded as a process, main parts of which are, respectively, service registration, service request, service match, service request reply and service execution. Upon this preliminary work, I have analyzed the basic principle of service discovery protocols, summarized their key technologies and the one affect the performance of service discovery protocols most, namly service registration, is paid emphasis on. I first also propose a service registration model based on different hop range of service advertisements through analysis of Source-not-assure problem and got the optimal result of the model which leads to the best communication quality as well as a new registration algorithm suitable for Ad hoc netwotks, namely hop-based service registration.Moreover, utilizing NS-2(network simulator), upon protocol parameters and network conditions, I have simulated and analyzed the performance of service registration, under the metrics of reply delay, total delay, successful delivery ratio and network consume. Upon all of these, main parameters of service registration that significantly affect the performance of are gained and improvement methods are achieved. Last but not least, a printer service discovery system is developed under Linux OS which is an significant setp from theory to practice.
