As China’s economic development, the demand for coal increased year by year, the pressure of coal mining is also growing. However, the security situation in coal mining in China is not optimistic, especially in gas explosion accidents have occurred and further highlights the existence of coal production in the poor infrastructure problems. Underground gas concentration monitoring is an important part of the mine safety management, the traditional use of gas monitoring system is mainly wired network connection, but the cable transmission in time and space are subject to significant constraints.In this paper, We propose a coal mine gas monitoring system design, which is based on Wireless sensor networks. The design system is divided into information collection, transmission, monitoring and routing design of several parts. For actual requirements, we design the wireless sensor networks which made up of fixed sites and mobile nodes. Node hardware include:the sensor module, control module, wireless communication module and power modules. The Software parts mainly include data acquisition module, processing module and data transmission module, and gives the flowchart of each module. And then focus on data transfer module in the gas routing protocol analysis, design and made for mine routing protocol for wireless sensor network.The design of the main content is part for underground gas monitoring system data collection and transmission. Finally the design of network were tested in indoor and corridor, and tests show that the monitoring network communication effect is good. Node can perform monitoring task according to the design way of working. So, the system basically achieves expected the design requirements, can satisfy the need of mine gas monitoring. Based on wireless sensor network coal mine monitoring system for existing gas is an improved for the monitoring mode of our country, so the monitoring of coal gas has great theoretical significance and practical value.
