Load Calculation and Finite Element Analysis of the Gearbox Housing of a Wheel Loader

In this paper, under the maximal static load condition, all loads on the gearbox housing of a wheel loader were analyzed and calculated so as to realize the source, size, direction, position and distribution of the load. In the process of bearing capacity checking, designing and improvement of the gearbox housing of a wheel loader, distribution of stress, strain and natural frequencies, modal shapes of the gearbox housing were analyzed so as to provide certain theoretical basis for the engineering technicians. Meanwhile, a load calculation platform was developed so as to calculate the load on the gearbox housing quickly and conveniently.In the process of this research, firstly, under the maximal static load condition, based on the known data, the Hertz elastomer contact theory and the load distribution assumption of the radial bearing, the process of the load calculation of the gearbox housing finished after analyzing the load and its source of the gearbox housing according to the load transfer principle and confirming the loading position and the ideas of the load calculation of the gearbox housing. It is shown that the loads on the bearing surface of the gearbox housing were distributed in the form of four kinds of function. Secondly, by using of ANSYS12.0 software, finite element model, constrainting and loading in which the constraints and loads were obtained from the load calculation of the gearbox housing, finite element static analysis and finite element constraint modal analysis of the gearbox housing of a wheel loader were accomplished. The finite element analysis results of the gearbox housing shown that the maximal tensile stress was on the anterior surface of middle input shaft bearing house and was in the range of the allowable stress, the maximal deformation was on the mounting upper surface of the middle cover, and the value of the first 5 natural frequencies and its corresponding modal shapes. Finally, based on VB6.0 program software, the special load calculation platform of the gearbox housing of a wheel loader, which can achieve the function of net torque calculation of diesel engine, input torque calculation of hydraulic torque converter, matching torque calculation between hydraulic torque converter and diesel engine and so on, was set up according to the ideas of the load calculation which was formed in the process of the load calculation of the gearbox housing.
