As one of the most important part of emerging information technologies, the Internet of things has caused people’s great interest and attention. EPC network, one of very important network in the Internet of things, adopts EPC for items’s united coding and uses RFID technology to identify, trace and locate items througth Internet to archive the purpose of items information sharing. The paper studies EPC network in the Internet of things.There are massive raw data in the Internet of things system, and these massive data with time and space relevant, inaccuracy and semantic richness. The main problem that how to deal with and transmit these data in order to not cause heavy burden for upper applications, is need to be solved by the RFID middleware. ALE, Application Level Event, a specification about middleware standard, was published by EPCglobal organazition. The specification defined interfaces of data filtering collection and transfering. The purpose of the paper is to put forward a set of RFID middleware solutions through studying EPC network, which supports ALE specification, suitable for the Internet of things, and with good generality and expansibility.After introducing the application background of EPC network, system architecture, fundamental components and work-energy theorems, the paper focuses on the study of RFID middleware to solve shielding underlying hardware equipment differences, massive data processing, and providing transparent service for the upper applications.At the same time, the paper provides safety management to meet RFID data’ safety requirements.The major work of the paper is to design the overall structure of RFID middleware and its functional modules, adopt Web Service to realize the prototype of RFID middleware, and validate its feasibility and correctness. RFID middleware designed in the paper is composed of four modules, including hardware adapter, data processing, safety management, event management. Hardware adapter module is responsible for the management and maintenance of hardware. Data processing module implements data filtering, data grouping, and data format conversion. Safety management module provides a set of safety protection mechanism. Event management module is mainly responsible for the communication interactive with enterprise applications.The paper designs each module as a Web Service to realize middleware prototype, and in the client side, designs visual interface based on B/S structure to verify system’s feasibility and corretness. The RFID middleware not only has good module encapsulation, provides convenience for application of selecting module, but also possesses favorable commonality, availability and expansibility.
