Design and Implementation of an Intelligent Document Tool-DocRoading

Analyzing user behavior on web-based application and monitoring their events are two of most important and challenging research topics of web usage nowadays. However, looking back the past ten years, software and applications in handling the activities and events were mostly focused on desktop application, and had been made greate advances in engineering. We advocate that we should shift the emphasis to Web-based applications benefit from present theories and technologies related to web.This paper presents the design and implementation of an innovative and intelligent solution in semi-automatically building user manual from its logs monitored. We introduce this intelligent user-manual maker system (DocRoading) which records sequences of events as the user is using web applications and turns these events’sequences into contents that can be incorporated into user manual.  DocRoading provides two key components: Handling event model (HDEVT) for implementing event’s monitoring and handling, and Semantic words pool (SWPOOL) for extracting some phrases customized to match semantic tags generated by HDEVT, then generate sentences. The quality of those sentences generated are related to customization by developers, and the more proficient in mastering one language, the better quality for user manual generated.DocRoading can apply to more other fields, such as online FAQ document generating for guide client’s operation on website, or generate document configuration dynamically by senior engineer for guide how to configure application server, and etc. Admittedly, its functionalities and scripts library still need further perfection in the future.
