Studies on Trees and Plant Communities of the Synthetic Urban Park in Hohhot

This paper gives landscape evaluation on the plant communities by investigating and analyzing the tree species and plant communities of two following parks in Hohhot, Qing Cheng Park and Man Dou Hai Park. Based on the study, we put forward the suggestions, for providing the basic theoretical and practical information on how to improve the landscape quality of urban parks as well as the other green space of Hohhot in the future.(1) Investigations and analysis of the tree species: based on the investigations of the species, quantity and other properties of trees in those two parks, we count up the species and types, quantity, the proportion of arbors and shrubs within the total trees, quantity and the proportion of native and imported tree species, flowering shrubs, covering plants, hedges in the parks. By analyzing the mean heights and mean DBH, the situation of the distribution of tree individuals of height class and DBH class in park has been made clear. The results indicated that the proportion of varieties of trees, flowering shrubs, cover plants is 38:16:1 of Qing Cheng Park; the proportion of the varieties of trees, flowering shrubs, climbing plants is 14:11:1 of Man Dou Hai Park.(2) Investigation and analysis of the plant communities: the investigated area could be divided into four districts with different functions: door district, pond district, leisure and pleasure district, quiet rest district, and per district with 3 plots, 24 plots all together. The investigation includes the following contents: the types and quantity of plant communities, the number of plants with ornamental flowers, fruits and foliage, the number of plant with both evergreen and deciduous, plant communities with vegetation types and structures plant communities with vegetation types includes: evergreen coniferous forest, deciduous broadleaf forests, shrub forests, coniferous and broadleaved mixed forests, and with the frequency of 12.5%, 20.8%, 4.2%, 62.5% respectively. Plant communities with pure forests are lower than mixed forests in terms of horizontal structure, and the growing and landscape effects of the forest consisting of coniferous, such as Pinus tabulaeformis and Picea meyeri, is poor. Plant communities with vertical structure, the type of plant communities are abundant and it has most trees- shrubs-grass and least shrubs-grass.Based on the investigation and analysis, the plant communities obtained the landscape evaluation index weighted by using analytic hierarchy process which is used the AHP method, to established the AHP model of landscape evaluation of the plant communities of synthetic urban park in Hohhot. According to the AHP model what landscape evaluated the plant communities of the four kinds of functional green spaces, which obtains its result of evaluation of landscape quality, set up the arrangement and class to them. The results will provide the ideas and the suggestions on the construction of urban park green space of Hohhot in the future .
