Objective: To study the cases of fetal death , to know how we can intervene in the cases of fetal death ,in order to take from the mortality rate of foetus and neonats[1].Methods: All cases of fetal death , which happened in the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangxi Medical University between July 1999 and October 2008 , were analysed retrospectively. Results: There were 159 cases of fetal death . The rate of fetal death was higher in countryside than in city. The cases of fetal death which happened in perinatal period took the major precent, so to reduce cases of fetal death is the important mission of lowering perinatal death rate. Umbilical cord factor was the most important factor in the causes of fetal death , taking percent in 40.3%. The other factors were maternal factor、placenta factor and fetal factor, and taking percent in 30.2% , 20.1%,18.2% in return. There were 18 cases of fetal death whose causation we were ill-difined .The fetal death rate of perinatal period is higher than the rate of before perinatal period. Conclusions : The rate of fetal death was higher in countryside than in city. There were umbilical cord abnormal factor, maternal abnormal factor、placenta abnormal factor and fetal abnormal factor for fetal death in turn.Umbilical cord coiling took the most percent in abnormal umbilical cord.We should find out abnormal umbilical cord by testing umbilical flow. It is important to intensify the surveillance and improve the diagnostic craftsmanship of ultrasonic[2] for the pregnant women during the pregnancy . We should give more education to pregnant women to make them known what they should do for themselves during their pregnancy and make chech-up on schedule to reduce cases of fetal death and to lower the rate of perinatal death .
