Beam pumping unit is an important part of the oil pumping system. It has simple structure and high reliability which has been widely used in the oilfield. Mechanical models of wire rope and motion reliability analysis of the beam pumping unit were investigated in the paper. The main contents as follows:(1) Because beam pumping unit’s working condition is very bad. In order that all the oil work can carry on smoothly and safely. Changed the position of the existing beam pumping unit’load cell on the wire rope was discussed in the paper. In order to be ease to install and maintenance, reduce pollution and extend their working life, mechanical models of wire rope have been established in the paper. They reflected the force relationship between the two measurement points. Firstly, according to the working principle of the beam pumping unit, the pumping motion analysis model were established; Secondly, mechanical models of wire rope were established in the different strokes by using the friction theory of the flexible body; Finally, the paper has combined with the principle of the sensor’s selection to gain the corresponding load cell and design the wire tension’s measurement system.(2) Manufacturing errors and installation errors make the parts of the beam pumping unit have a lot of uncertainties. For example, length of each part size, the existence of the hinge gap and so on. These uncertainties will affect the motion accuracy of the four-bar linkage and the performance of the beam pumping unit. Random variables were used to describe the above uncertain information in the paper. In order to establish the reliability model accuracy of the beam pumping unit, and verify the method which was proposed in this paper by an example.
