An Empirical Study on the Model of Tacit Knowledge about Managers in Corporations of Our Country and Its Relationship with Competence and Work Performance

Along with the global economic integration and fierce competition between corporations, each corporation is searching for and digging its own core competence. Because tacit knowledge is hard to be imitated, replaced and transferred, it plays an important role in the process of keeping sustainable competitive advantage for the corporation. However, the research about tacit knowledge is mostly about theory, lacking empirical study. So, this paper will do an empirical study on the model of tacit knowledge, and its relationship with competence and work performance about managers in corporations of our country.After checking the international and domestic documents of relative content, the appropriate measures of TK, Competence and WP about managers are picked up. Six-point Scale are used to grade these measures.After the pre-test by experts,the questionnaire for pilot study is formed.The object of the pilot study is to simplify the small sample’s data and find the basic structure of factors. In virtue of EFA and reliability analysis,the pilot questionnaire was modified and the formal questionnaire was developed.In the survey of the second phase,the samples involved over 360 managers from all kinds of corporations in our country. After Confirmatory Factor Analysis(CFA)and reliability Analysis secondly,we confirm that the measure system of TK, Competence and WP of managers have high reliability. The six-dimensions structure of TK of managers is modeled rightly and the formal questionnaire has good reliability and validity.Then, we employ SEM to analyze the big-sample data and tend to validate the proposition model with Lisrel8.72. The conclusion shows that: TK of managers have a significant effect on TC (threshold competence) and TC has a great effect on WP; TK of managers have a significant effect on DC (differentiate competence) and DC has a great effect on WP. However, TK of managers isn’t directly influencing WP but through the medial variables of TC and DC to take effect on WP. Furthermore, We discuss the relationship of the dimensions between TK of managers and WP.The model of tacit knowledge about managers in corporations of our country concluded from this papar can help us to deeply understand the structure of TK of managers, and also provides us a reference for the empirical study of TK. The effect system of TK of managers, Competence, and WP also give us a new perspective to study the relationship of them in the future.
