Currently, with the quick development of software and hardware technology of computer, Digital Image Processing technology begins to maturate little by little. It is widely used in space exploration, remote sensing, biomedical, and artificial intelligence, as well as industrial inspection, and many other fields. It also makes these subjects have new development. It has applied to all levels in industry territory, more and more embedded applications of DIP have taken place.Container visual inspection is an important application of DIP in the industrial inspection. Automated visual inspection system of container is a good way to boost container inspection efficiency and reduce inspection cost. To realize this system, the technology we need is image processing, stereo vision and pattern recognition etc.The main work of this thesis is to do some initial research of DIP to some damaged parts of container with MATLAB, and also mend some approaches to enhance image .All the work is ready for automated visual inspection system of container.This thesis can divide into seven parts. The first part is to introduce the background of DIP, main research content and its future applications. The second part is to introduce the relevant knowledge of container in detail, including the concept, the classification as well as the inspection of container. The third part will introduce spatial point enhancement, and present a new grey transformation. The fourth part is to introduce three filtering technologies: smooth filtering, median filtering and sharp filtering. At the same time, three technologies are used to do processing to the digital image, and present experiment picture as well as result analysis. The fifth part will introduce the core arithmetic, and present a new approach: amplify of small difference to digital image based on matrix LU decomposition. The sixth part will introduce the automated visual inspection system of surface crack of container. The last part is a summary and prospect.
