The paper based on the project " The Research of Arbitrary Waveform Signal Generators "introduces the development of frequency synthesis method and actuality of signal generators. It designes around the DDS and DSP integrate circuits by studying Direct Digital Synthesis(DDS). Using the AD9954 DDS of the AD Inc. as the kernel and the TMS320C5509A DSP of the TI Inc. as the control part, this article develops a simple construction and high performance communication signal generator in view of application of Underwater Acoustic Experiments.In the systerm, as leading generator proportion of general waveform, the AD9954 and TMS320C5509A can generate many communication signals such as monochromatic signals, PSK signals, chirp signals, and so on. Moreover through geting the waveform datas from SDRAM controled by CPLD, it can generate more non-periodic signals, such as Band-Limited Noise and so on, to use better in the applications of Underwater Acoustic. From the introduce above what have done is for more comprehensive in applications.The main work of this article is as this:1. Study the theory of the DDS. According to the composition of the DDS, the time - domain expression is derived and the spectrumanalys is made in the frequency - domain under ideal conditions.2. Study the related theory of normal modulated signals such as ASK, FSK, PSK and so on. It is important base for the signal generating.3. Design and realize the system about the hardware, the schematic and the PCB of the signal generator.4. Design and realize the software. Debug the system and make the system meet the target.
