In the 21st century,the rapid development of modern city square based on historic culture vein.which brings not only development of city image but also social-economic growth. In this paper begin with the construction and design of modern city square, pay attention to the environment create, focusing on cultural characteristics of inheriting and carrying forward the historical culture vein as a goal.The modern city square is the key that the people stop after they walk into the city scenic area. We can compare it to the high tide of a wonderful music, which will allow people well absorbed in the entire whole music. An outstanding modern city square design can also stimulate the people’s interest and guide them to the depth and intoxicated in the whole city scenic area, so their planning plays an extremely important role in the whole development of the city scenic spot and it worth an in-depth study.First, this paper focuing on the indistinct of city square.This article stresses that design shall emphasize on the true meaning of the distinct feature based on the local condition itself,refine the design element after completely understangding the feature,thus creat a city square featured with rich regional cultures. Through a typical study of the the modern city square,the author not only illustrates the regional characteristics of an exact area, but also shows how the development of local social-economic conditions put impaction on it. How can we make a continuitly of the valuable features of the region?Next, This article analyze the problems of designing urban square,as follow ,the paper also put forward the four basic principles of urban square design.They are beautiful and contain higher cultural connotation-aethetic,and they also have certain ecology effect and one of the four basic principles is one side in city square installation,having the function to prevent calamity. All of these can be projecting city characteristics,in order that a rational, quantitative and effective method in city construction has been found.Once more, this article in the design of modern square shape was explored, the adoption of a personalized design to the city square shape was aimed at imaging and improving urban quality,optimizing the urban space ,forging a distinctive personality city business .And the design of modern square should excavates the historical culture and humanities root of the city,and fully manifests the historical culture and the city characteristic.Finally,this paper briefly introduces the function of North Square of the Wild Goose Pagoda,the city square of“Wuling culture”of changde in Hunan and Xi’an Zhonggulou.It discusses the planning and the design of the square in terms of its spatial struction,planting,sculptures and lighting.It also analyses the harmonic relation between the square’s design and the culture of Tang Dynasty,and then summarizes the humanistic design and also discusses the demerits of the design. Which aiso summarized the methods of modern city square planning and design. Systematically point out only begin with the culture characteristics of the typical area, based on the scientific concept of development, grasp the economic and ecological principles, put full implementation on the principle,conform to the natural、following of local conditions, using local materials, combine the principle in economic, grasp the culture characteristics,imple the maximize of the modern city square carry forward the historical vein and can also achieve sustainable development.
