For the purpose of study on dynamics of cannon barrel moving along cradle with large displacement, a time-varying experiment system was designed with consideration of variable cross-section cantilever beam traversed by a moving concentrated mass. Through the analysis of the relationship between the deformation of the beam and the parameters such as its shape, size, mass and speed in the experiment system, the vibration and deformation rule of the system was studied when the mass moves along the cantilever beam.With the aim of studying time-varying mechanics based on experiment, the barrel along cradle with large displacement model was analyzed, abstracted and simplified to identify the basic structure of the time-varying experiment system. Factors such as experimental effect, experimental conditions and similar researches were considered comprehensively, to conform the basic restraints such as shapes and sizes when designing the laboratorial platform.According to the adiabatic equation of gas, a basic gas driving model was established. By changing the initial pressure, initial volume and driving distance and analyzing the driving effect, the design reference of the driver was provided. The 3D model and finite element models were built. And the rigidity and intensity of the laboratorial platform were checked.Following the laboratorial platform design, one virtual experimental platform was developed with functions such as creating virtual experiment scene, doing finite element or dynamic computations, data processing, etc. The design idea, process and flow of the virtual experiment platform were analyzed and studied. The building process of a virtual experiment scene was introduced through the creating of mass-beam time-varying experiment system.The testing program of the mass-beam time-varying experiment system designed. And the corresponding testing methods were selected and estimated the effectiveness as well according to the testing content and test requirement. The effectiveness and insufficient points of computer modeling were analyzed and summarized by contrasting the experiment test results and modeling analysis results.
