The Rewriting of "the Red Classics" in the Context of Consumerism Culture

The trend which "the Red Classics" are revised into homonymous teleplays and movies has brought to the attention of the literal since the 1990s. This paper mainly discusses the text rewriting of "the Red Classics" through context of consumer culture. On the base of discussing the basic traits of consumer culture and its relationship with modern media, it elucidates that the text rewriting of "the Red Classics" is actually related with main national discourse field, folk discourse field and economic field, which jointly impose influences on the literature field of "the Red Classics".Chapter One looks upon "the Red Classics" through context of consumerism culture. Consumer culture refers to a life style: the purpose of consumption is to keep on pursuing satisfaction of human desire which is produced and stimulated, not to meet actual need. "The Red Classics" in this paper is also called "Revolutionary Historical Novels", it ever deeply moved Chinese readers and now carries their historical memory. According to theoretical view, the text rewriting of "the Red Classics" mainly consists of three aspects: first, the recurrence of "the Red Time" in modern social environment; second, this recurrence relies on the text rewriting of classical works of "the Red Time"; third, classical works of "the Red Time" refer to those far-reaching works of republic period(1949-1976).Chapter Two introduces the conception of "Literature Field" into paper, and dissertates that the text rewriting of "the Red Classics" is the battle of four major fields. From novel to teleplay and movie, establishment of the status of "the Red Classics" is the result of evaluation and advocation with the entry of mainstream discourse into literature field. This chapter also elucidates rationality and present creation state of the transcribed teleplays and movies, and makes out rewriting principles in order to supply basis for the text rewriting even literary creation of "the Red Classics".Chapter Three elucidates method and strategy of the text rewriting of "the Red Classics". A conclusion is get in this chapter: for holding status in the globalized language environment, Chinese literature must establish its own cultural identity, treat the rewriting of "the Red Classics" as an opportunity, emphasize writing of spiritual ecology, and create a harmonious culture to exert the social function of literature and advocate main social rhythm.
