As a realistic popular director, Zheng Xiaolong always trains on the vast majority of the Chinese people, puts the lives of the common people up on the screen, uses art mean to present the fluctuations and aspects of human world. The article roundly and systematically analyzes Zheng Xiaolong’s TV series creation in four sections. Through the studying of his representative works, I tried to refine the consistent ethic ideal and distinct creative style for Zheng Xiaolong as a vulgar TV series director. Introduction, as the first article, not only simply summarizes the TV series achievements and works rewards of Zheng Xiaolong when he was the director in Beijing TV Art Center, but also marshals Zheng Xiaolong’s TV series research status. For the lack of the integral academic research to his TV creation, placing Zheng Xiaolong in the era background and analyzing through both his TV series and himself become important in this article. In the angle of era background, chapter one investigates the commonly involved theme of survival value. According to examine the text, this article analyzes the ineluctable hardship in destiny, the realistic situation of the round characters and the vision of life and humanistic concern of the world vicissitudes in the change of both homes and countries, finally highlights the individual survival value in the grand history background. Chapter two analyses Zheng Xiaolong’s creation style in the angle of TV art, his pain folk style brings the new chapter of the people era. The fancy annalistic style TV series becomes the milestone of’Civilians epic’, the true portraiture of the real life is much closer to the civilian; the original intention of making TV series for the civilian causes the high audience rating. The third section analyses through the level of both culture shock between China and the Western countries and identity predicament in the angle of culture and thought content. It analyses from three main aspects as following:cognition of money, concept of sex and traditional Chinese medicine. At the same time of reading the contradiction in the inner world of the characters in the works, Zheng Xiaolong’s imaging world adjusts the conflict in an understanding and respect attitude. Chapter four confirms Zheng Xiaolong as an outstanding Chinese TV series creator; he offers meritorious contribute to the development of Chinese TV series.
