GB 7588-2003《Safety rules for the construction and installation of lifts-Part 1: Electric lifts》is a very important China national standard. It will be carried out after January 1, 2005. There are some new items about ascending car overspeed protection means in it. This project is mostly about studying on device of double action safety gear and rope brake. It discusses the construction and features of the device of double action safety gear, and analyzes the stopping force of safety gear for upward and downward direction. In addition, introduces three new devices of double action safety gear. For rope brake, the author discussed the elevator rule’s request for rope brake, researched it’s type and work theory, talked about type examination method, and calculation method of rope brake’s braking force for elevator with rope ratio 1:1 . At the same time, other ascending car overspeed protection means are introduced.
