Molecular imprinted polymers (MIPs) are synthetic polymers possessing a high selectivity designed for a certain molecule. These materials are obtained by adding a template molecule into the synthetic system, followed by polymerizing the functional monomers with the help of a cross-linker in the presence of an initiator. In this work, non-covalent method was employed in the synthesis of molecular imprinted polymers with tanshinone II A, paeoniflorin, ligustrazine, (3-sitosterol and EGCG as templates.There are many factors affecting the selectivity in the synthesis of MIPs, such as the choice of the types and the volume of every reagent involved. A careful control on these factors is necessary and crucial. In this work, Uniform Design (UD) is introduced into the experiment designs of the synthesis of MIPs with tanshinoneⅡA as a template molecule. A method of optimizing the synthetic conditions for MIPs was established and further applied in the molecularly imprinting of other templates.In this work, the recognition properties for specific samples of the prepared MIPs were further evaluated by chromatographic evaluation, equilibrium batch rebinding experiments and solid-phase extraction (SPE). To investigate the chemical principles in the imprinting steps, UV analysis was used to evaluate the interaction of the template with different functional monomers.This paper provides an experimental foundation for further investigation on molecular imprinting technology in the extraction and separation of effective components in traditional Chinese medicine.
