In the experiment quenching method is applied for preparation of Cu and its compounds. Nanoparticles CuO with high temperature are spread directly into alcohol in room temperature, then drastic redox reaction occurred: CuO particles are reduced to Cu and Cu2O. The obtained products are characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD)A transmission electron microscopy(TEM), scanning electron microscopy(SEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS) , TG-DTA and so on. The results show that quenching temperatures and quenching media have great influence on the composition of products. In addition, solvothermal method has been applied to prepare copper. Comparing the two methods, the products from the latter are better in crystal morphology. Finally, Cu nanoparticles have been added to lubricating oil to do the wearing experiment. The outcome indicates that lubricating oil containing Cu nanoparticles can largely reduce the abrasion of metal, and the surface obtained by using the new lubricating oil is smoother than the one obtained by using ordinary oil.
