A Study on Zhoulaozui Town of Jianli County in HuBei

This case study is on Zhoulaozui Town in Jianli, one sub-topic of "The Study on Traditional Residence in Hubei Province" which presided by Professor Li Baihao. It is also one part of "China-Japan’s Cooperative Study on the Streets of Ancient Town in Hubei Province" cooperated with Japan and one part of "The Study on Conversation and Utilization’s Mode and Method of Ancient Town in Hubei Province" founded by Wuhan University of Technology. From the point view of regional town, combined with the study information, my paper has a foundational study on town pattern, street form and architectural features, probe the strategy of Zhoulaozui town conversation and restoration.Paper is divided into 7 chapters totally:Chapter 1 is the exordium. In this chapter, introduce the study background, study contents, and some related theories about traditional town, then put forward the working frame of the study.Chapter 2 is about Zhoulaozui history evolution. At first, make a summary of Jianli County which Zhoulaozui belongs to from its regionalism flux and environment. Then via analyzing geographical environment, economic environment and humanistic background of Zhoulaozui, generalize the history evolution of Zhoulaozui town.Chapter 3 makes clear the site selection, space pattern of Zhoulaozui town and the flux of space pattern. From the facts of nature environment and society culture analyze the site selection of Zhoulaozui town. The space pattern goes through four temples lock the town, open street, old street and new district.Chapter 4 takes apart street characters from the angles of street structure, street function, street space and street landscape. Street structure of two streets and several lanes, street function of multi meanings, street space of full of change, and street landscape of varying with scenery constitute street characters.Chapter 5 analyzes architectural types, features in this town and elaborates some examples of traditional buildings. Sum up similarities and differences of Tiandou residence and patio residence. Analyze some architectural features in the aspects of architecture structure, plane layout, space sequence, street facade, architecture entrance, Guandou wall and Chitou. Select three typical traditional buildings as the samples to probe into its features in the aspects of history evolution, space form, plane layout and decoration.Chapter 6 tables a proposal on Zhoulaozui town’s conversation and restoration. Through evaluating, combined with deeply analyzing status quo, confirm conversation content and aim, demarcation conversation range and levels, and put forward the proposal of Zhoulaozui town’s conversation and restoration.Chapter 7 draws a conclusion for this paper and bring forward the deeper study on the ancient town . Summarize Zhoulaozui town’s development orbit and make an appraisement with the question of conservation and restoration. Finally, propose expectation to Zhoulaozui town’s future.
