Ethyl butyrate is the liquid with achromaticity and transparence. It smells like pineapple aroma. It is widely applied to essence, food, medicine, chemical industry, and so on.Nowadays most of the ethyl butyrate producing factories adopt the traditional technique, which is batch or half continual. It has the defect such as high material and energy consuming, large investment, more waste water exhausting etc.Based on the studies of the others and the technology of reactive distillation (RD), the new technique for continual ethly butyrate synthesis was studied.Because of the chemical reaction, the parameters of the RD are very coupling, and the actual operation becomes more complicated. A slight change of the parameters, such as pressure, reflex ration and the feeding stage etc. will lead a great variation to the process. To determine the operation and equipment parameters, the correlative work would be much great. So the technique was studies combining the experiment with ASPEN PLUS, which is a successful software of chemical engineering. The main work is as follows:1) The kinetics of ethyl butyrate synthesis catalyzed by p-toluene sulphoric acid was studied. The influences of the quantity of the catalyst, the initial ratio of the ethanol to the acid, and the reactive temperature of the esterification were studied. According to the kinetic data, the mathematic model was obtained by nonlinear regression.2) The research of the RD flowsheet was done by combining the experiment with computer simulation. Based on the azeotropic property of the water and ethyl butyrate, the ester was distillated out with water, as a result, the process was carried on continually. The simulation was done by ASPEN PLUS.
