Both energy conservation and environmental protection are the great topics for discussion in the development of technology in 21st century. Because heat pump is a kind of technology of room heating and air-conditioning which can efficiently economize energy and decrease air pollution and carbon dioxide emissions, many countries in the world attach their importance to the technology in the scene of energy conservation and reducing cost. But due to the problem of chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) in environmental protection, it is very important to replace traditional refrigerant by new green refrigerant that is not harmful to ozone layer. This experimental platform is a ground source heat pump system in which HCFC 22 is replaced by the non-azeotropic mixture R407C. The study focuses on the basic characteristics and performance of the ground source heat pump using R407C as working fluid. In this paper, the basic properties of thermal physics of mixed refrigerant are firstly studied in terms of theory and the essential features of heat pump using mixture are also analyzed. Then on the principle of optimizing design the working condition of ground source heat pump system is analyzed. According to the performance of the unit each main component is designed. Thermodynamic calculation for the system is a overall planning, and based on the result of calculation choosing the type of each fitting is best matched and at the same time taking into account both capacity and joint matching. In order to obtain accurate experimental data, the testing system is seriously designed and carefully assemblied to make it run properly. Finally, a series of experiments of the ground source heat pump system is conducted and plenty of experimental data in different conditions is obtained. In the course of analysis and summary of testing result the law of operation of heat pump using R407C is gained and the very valuable data for study of replacement of refrigerant is provided. The results of this paper have a valuble reference for the application of ground source heat pump using mixture R407C as working fluid in practice.
