The traditional CNC systems have close control architecture. There are some disadvantages for these systems: On the one hand, it’s difficult to modify or enlarge the CNC system’s function. The producer of machine tool and customer hardly integrate their special technology into CNC system. On the other hand, it’s difficult for producer of the controller to construct CNC system rapidly on the market demands. The method to solve the problem is to establish open CNC system.Through the research of open architecture NC systems at home and abroad, the thesis analyzes and contrasts several open modes and system structures and the "NC insert PC" mode is adopted to establish the working table. On the design of hardware resource of a PC computer itself and connecting with the Motion Control Card .On the design of software, in the Windows 2000 environment, this paper realizes the DIY of software in the design method of modularization structure by the development tool of Visual C++, which materializes the basic idea of open system structure.In accordance to the thorough function analysis of the hardware structure of CNC system, we confirm the main frame of the system. And discuss a series of questions about the motion control card, convert, AC servo motor and Industrial Personal Computer. Then, researching the multitask and real time of Windows 2000 operating system, we established the software structure of this CNC system and the problem to solve of the project. On the basis of these, we finish selecting Object Oriented language-Visual C++ as develop tools, and OpenGL as the 3D graph platform; designing the system software, include of Man-machine-interface, NC code translation, serial communication control between PC and the converter, and tool compensation library. Finally, we develop 3D dynamic simulation of the system using OpenGL.In the part of debugging, we explain the environment and the purpose of debugging. From the aspects of hardware and software, we debugg the whole CNC system, then analyze the result.Combining with practice, we discussing the characteristics and development direction of the open CNC, and point out some suggestion
