"Head teacher specialization" was first advanced by Ms Wang haiyan, who works in Capital Normal University, in the annual seminar about the theoretical construction of class held in Dagang, Tianjin in 2002.From then on, researches on the head teacher specialization becomes more and more popular. At the same time,the "development of Head teacher specialization" became an important topic in the filed of educational research.However, most of the researches just focus on theory rather than on practice. Little attention is paid on the investigation into the schools in different regions. As a result, not all schools can be suited for the policies proposed by the researchers. Considering the needs of reform and development on education in Foshan, this thesis tries to understand the current situation and problems in Foshan about the development of Head teacher specialization by some empirical researches, then propose some specific strategies on it.Regardless of the introduction, the thesis is made of four parts:The first part mainly discusses the definition and the importance of Head teacher specialization. In this part, we collect the related concepts of Head teacher specialization, and make some comparison about the differences between Head teacher specialization and teachers’ professional development, reveal the particularity of Head teacher specialization, which can be the foundation of the whole thesis.Then we discuss the importance of Head teacher specialization from three aspects.The second part concerns about the current situation of the professional development in Foshan, which is the most important part formed by the empirical research. Through the analysis of the data processing from the questionnaires named "Questionnaire on the current situation and the needs to the development of Head teacher specialization in Foshan" and "Questionnaire on the promotion of the development of Head teacher specialization in Foshan", we can describe the current situation of the development of Head teacher specialization in Foshan from six aspects.Based on the results obtained from the research, the third part finds out the problems existing in the development of Head teacher specialization from three aspects,and then,analized the reasons which lead to these problems. In the last part of the thesis, some strategies are given about the development of Head teacher specialization in Foshan, which aim to solve the problems. The five strategies are as follows:(1)Pay more attention to the quality of life of the head teachers and try to improve the development of their own understandings;(2)Develop the incentive mechanism of the development of Head teacher specialization in Foshan;(3)Focus on the changes of educational practice in their daily life and promote their growth in an active way;(4)Construct learning teams; let the head teachers help each other;(5)Build a multivariant mechanism to train the head teachers.
