By the rapid development of Internet and stream media technology, world broadcast TV gradually becomes digitized , and the performance of stream media server becomes important factor that restrict stream-media application. So the research of performance evaluation of stream media server not only help to establish high performance server’ s testing flat of our country’ s but also help the consumer to choose server and help manufacturers to improve their products.The thesis first introduces the research background and development nowadays, then it discusses the criterion of performance evaluation of stream media server based on stream media technology and stream media server nowadays, and it puts forward the criterion of this research.Afterwards, the thesis analyzes the working principle of stream media server. It explains particularly the relation and transform between PS and TS of MPEG-2, and the MPEG-2 data’ transmiting process based on RTP/RTCP protocol. At last it puts forward our testing method:SSMU, which can evaluate stream media server’ s performance through one or a few clients.The thesis explains the design and implementation of this performance evaluation system of stream media server that named SSMU and we prove that this performance evaluation system can reflect stream media server’ s performance simplely and effectively. Finally, the thesis summarizes our work and points out the research direction in future.
