The world has been going to the knowledge-based society, knowledge management has becoming the key approach to develop the core competence of firms. Compare to traditional enterprises, the success of Hi-Tech enterprises are much more depending on the management of the knowledge resources storing in and out the enterprises. With the rapid change of the business environment and the increasingly intensity of competition, the Chinese Hi-Tech enterprises are commonly confronted with the key challenge, i.e. how to improve the core competence through enhancing the knowledge management. This research aims to offer new insights into the relationship between the knowledge management activities and the strategy management, by focusing on the practices in the Chinese Hi-Tech enterprises, with the viewpoint of strategy, system, dynamic and process. A review of literature suggests that knowledge management has roots in many diverse disciplines, such as strategy management, technology innovation management, organization learning, etc. Most of the relevant theories, however, are confirmed by their disciplinary boundaries. Without a framework and context, these theories are difficult for practitioners to assimilate. Besides, there is a gap between the theory of knowledge management and the practices in Chinese Hi-Tech enterprises. All of the gaps provide the research the start point, and make this research account. A knowledge management framework—knowledge chain is constructed, which divides the knowledge management activities into two parts: the primary activities and the secondary activities. This knowledge chain links the knowledge management activities and the core competence of a firm successfully. Surveying through the thesis, the knowledge chain is a foundational tool for this research.
