It is essentially automatic switched transport network technology can be seen as an application example of the optical network. The ASON used Generalized Multi-Label Switching (General Multi Protocol Label Switch - GMPLS) technology. GMPLS multi Label Switching (Multi ProtocolLabel Switch - MPLS) technology and optical transmission network technology combined a product, it will label switching concept expanded to include wavelength routing and switching of optical communication trail, it is not only to support packet-switched , but also supports time division switching, frequency-division switching and space division switching. Mainly based on the the MPLS extension of GMPLS routing protocol, signaling and link management protocol (Link Management Protocol - LMP) routing protocol is responsible for the control plane and service plane network topology generation signaling protocol is responsible for connection setup and teardown LMP is responsible for the automatic discovery of network resources. ASON features on the basis of the traditional two-plane of the optical network, an increase of more intelligent control plane, making the optical network now can automatically discover the resources available on the network, and according to the dynamic needs of the business network, by letter system autonomy to establish and remove the optical channel, without human intervention or management plane. The ASON program also directly introduced in the fiber-optic network to IP as the core of intelligent control technology, can effectively support dynamic setup and teardown of connections, a reasonable allocation of network resources on demand based on traffic engineering, and can provide good protection of the network, recovery performance. Therefore, we can say, ASON represents the optical communication network technology, a new stage of development and the future evolution.
