Neopentyl glycol having a wide range of uses , it can be used for the production of polyester, polyurethane foams and elastomers , plasticizers, Advanced lubricant additives , alkyd resins , refractory plastics , insecticides , herbicides , initiator, and the extraction agent ; also be used for the selective separation of aromatics and naphthenes . Its derivatives are widely used in the automotive , textile , pharmaceutical , paint , plastics and petroleum fields . With the deepening of neopentylglycol the commissioning of the new device and its application development , applications will be further expanded. Neopentyl glycol is synthesized from formaldehyde and isobutyraldehyde two alcohols, formaldehyde and isobutyraldehyde first aldol condensation reaction occurs to generate hydroxyl Laid valeraldehyde crossed Cannizzaro (Cannizzaro) reaction occurs , and then further with formaldehyde is reduced to neopentyl glycol. By performing a series of orthogonal experiments , we optimize the process conditions for each step of the reaction , to further improve the selectivity of the reaction and conversion rates . The aldol condensation reaction using an organic amine catalyst such as triethylamine, in an amount of the reaction solution concentration of 5%, the reaction temperature at 70-75 ℃, formaldehyde and isobutyraldehyde by mol ratio of 1.2 , the choice of the reaction sexual gt; 96.8% yield gt ; 96% . Cannizzaro reaction of formaldehyde with a hydroxy pentanal mol ratio of 1.2 , :30-40 ° C reaction temperature , the reaction solution pH GT ; 11 the conditions of the reaction , the product after the treatment using the high-boiling solvent distillation method , closing rate of 94% gt; the product purity gt ; 98% , mp 122-123 ° C
